Scouting for Food

2018 Scouting for Food takes place on April 14th!

Everyone is invited to take part in the annual Scouting for Food drive Saturday, April 14, from 10:30am to 4pm at Fred Meyer stores in Anchorage (Northern Lights, Dimond, Muldoon and Abbott locations), Eagle River, the Mat-Su Valley and Soldotna. Boy Scouts will be collecting non-perishable food in their neighborhoods and at all Fred Meyer stores.

Last year, Scouting for Food raised nearly 20,000 pounds of food in Anchorage alone, making it one of the biggest food drives of the year. Fred Meyer stores are generously participating as Scouting for Food host locations.

This food drive has a particularly big impact, as it comes at one of Food Bank of Alaska’s lowest donation times. Over the years, Scouting for Food has raised over half a million pounds of food for hungry children, families, and seniors in Alaska.

“We are very proud of our community’s Scouts for their service throughout this week. Scouting for Food comes at a critical time because it helps us restock our shelves after holiday donations get depleted. The drive helps us get through the summer months when children, especially, need meals the most,” says Food Bank of Alaska Executive Director Jim Baldwin.

Food collected in Eagle River, Soldotna, and the Mat-Su Valley will be distributed to people in need in those communities by Food Bank of Alaska partner food pantries.
