Food Bank of Alaska believes that no one deserves to be hungry. Since 1979, we have been securing donated food for nonprofit agencies to distribute to hungry Alaskans.

Food Bank of Alaska and other organizations feed hungry kids this summer

When school is out for summer vacation, 36,000 children in Alaska lose access to free and reduced -price meals they receive during the school year. Food Bank of Alaska with almost 50 rural sites, along with other organizations around the state, is helping to fill this gap with nutritious meals through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program.

Parents can find a summer meal program for their children by searching for the website Summer Food Rocks and entering their zip code. Information is also available at 1-866-3-HUNGRY, by dialing 2-1-1, or by texting ‘FOOD’ to 877-877.

Holding a food drive? Most needed items

Families with limited financial resources often have fresh fruits and vegetables at the bottom of their list because they are expensive. They end up buying highly cheap, highly processed foods that are high in calories but are low in nutrition. Help supplement restricted choices by selecting healthy and nutritious foods. Here is a list of most needed items. Find more information about holding a food drive on our food drive page.

2014 Annual Report on Ending Hunger

We are proud of the work that we do and pleased to share our 2014 Annual Report. Please take a moment to see what your support helps make possible in our great state. Thank you!

Christmas Food Distribution, GIFT 2014

You gave from the heart. Because of you, we shared groceries for a holiday meal with 3,974 families, 200 more than last year, at Anchorage GIFT, December 15-16. Hundreds of you volunteered to make it happen. Those who went home with food and toys they would not have been able to afford otherwise shared hugs, tears, and grins of appreciation. Just another reason why we love Alaska! Families that still need food over the holidays should call 2-1-1 or check out the Christmas week food distribution calendar of local Anchorage food pantries.

You Blessed Our Neighbors

We are happy to report the total numbers are in and the Valley Blessing Project served 2,171 households and the Anchorage Blessing Project served 7,822 households.

We were able to work with clients like Abigail, a single mom to her three-year-old daughter. This was the first year Abigail reported needing to use this type of food assistance to get through the holiday. Her little one was quick to chime in, “I’m so excited to eat yummy Thanksgiving food!” This event is truly a blessing to all who participate. Thank you to everyone who helped to make it happen. Happy Thanksgiving and many Blessings to you and your families!
