Join Our Hunger-Fighting Network!
There are two ways for Alaskan organizations to join
us in the fight against hunger in Alaska. An organization may become
either a regular Food Bank of Alaska partner agency, or a TEFAP emergency
food box distribution site. You may complete the relevant forms and
fax them to (907) 277-7368 or mail them to FBA, 2121 Spar Avenue, Anchorage,
AK 99501. A staff person will then contact you about your program.
Partner Agencies
More than 300 organizations are members of our network
of nonprofits. These agencies directly access donated food products
from our warehouse. Partner agencies can access a variety of product,
including produce, dairy, and bread items, at our facility in Anchorage.
There is a $100 yearly membership fee and a minimal per-pound handling
fee to help offset the high cost of shipping donated food to Alaska.
We can also ship orders outside Anchorage, though agencies will need
to pay for such transport. To qualify, an organization must be a registered
charity under IRS code 501(c)(3) or a recognized church and must demonstrate
that donated food is going to the needy.

Emergency USDA Food Box(TEFAP) Site
The Emergency Food Assistance Program, or TEFAP, makes
USDA commodities available to individuals and families who meet basic
low-income guidelines. Surplus dry goods and frozen items are included
in a standardized monthly food box. TEFAP food items and shipping are
free to the organization hosting a distribution site. Because this is
a federal program, paperwork such as individual applications, inventory,
and monthly reporting must be clearly maintained. Becoming a TEFAP distribution
site makes most sense for organizations in remote communities, where
shipping can be costly, or to large-volume food box distribution sites
in neighborhoods where food instability is greatest.
